Charles “Charlie” Sanders, of Woodlawn appeared with his attorney, Nicole Villani for a first advisement and arraignment.

According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman, Sanders was advised of the charges against him and pleaded not guilty. Sanders is charged with three Class X felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. Each Class X count is punishable in Illinois by up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

It is alleged that between 2002 and 2003, Sanders committed acts of sexual penetration on a young girl and that between 2010 and 2012, he committed the same or similar acts on at least one different young girl under the age of 13.

Illinois State Police arrested Sanders on the charges in October. His bail was set at $250,000. He quickly posted $25,000 cash bond and was released.

Hoffman says the conditions of his bond prohibit Sanders from having contact with the two alleged victims and no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Judge Thomas Dinn scheduled the case for a February 5 pre-trial hearing.
