San Jose completed a season sweep of the Blues, winning all three games by a combined 16-7. St. Louis has lost two in a row after winning eight of 11.

The Sharks jumped to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Pavelski and Irwin in a span of 2:56. Both came from close range on rebounds of missed shots that deflected off the end boards.
Blues C Backes to sit out after collision
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Center David Backes has been ruled out for St. Louis’ game against San Jose, snapping a string of 274 consecutive appearances.
Backes left Monday night’s 3-2 loss to Ottawa after colliding with Senators center Colin Greening in the second period. The upper-body injury occurred when Greening’s helmet appeared to make contact with Backes’ head.
Blues coach Ken Hitchcock says he thinks Backes will be out for at least a week.
Backes had played in 289 straight games counting the playoffs. Before last night, the captain last missed a game on Jan 25, 2010.
Backes has 16 goals and 14 assists in 32 games.
