• Mt. Vernon suffers another bank robbery

    Another bank in Jefferson County is dealing with a robbery. Around 11 Saturday morning, the Fifth Third Bank Branch in the 2700 of Broadway in Mount Vernon was held up by someone authorities are describing as an African American man, surveillance photos of the suspect can be found on our Facebook pages and our website.

    The suspect reportedly got away with an undisclosed amount of money, although no injuries were reported.

    Jefferson County has been no stranger to hold ups involving financial institutions recently.

    Community First Bank of the Heartland in Woodlawn was robbed in late November. Then the Gen Fed Credit Union along with the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union were robbed in early December. Three local individuals are in custody in connection to the robbery of the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union.
