Despite not addressing in lame-duck session the pension, gun legislation or same sex marriage, the Illinois House did approve a measure allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

House lawmakers approved the bill yesterday and it now heads to Governor Pat Quinn’s desk. Supporters call the bill a matter of public safety that will allow an estimated 250,000 illegal immigrants to get driver’s licenses.

However, Representative Cavaletto still opposed the move, saying driving is a privilege not a right and he didn’t understand why Illinois would reward people who are in the country illegally.
