Mt. Vernon Mayor Mary Jane Chesley made an announcement through a press release on Monday, congratulating and thanking Mendenall “for his 31 years of dedicated service to the department and the city” and wishing him and his family “the very best in this next chapter of his life and career.”

It is unclear at this time who will be hired to fill Mendenall’s position.

The City of Centralia last week appointed former councilman Doug Krutsinger to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of its police chief Larry Evans, who had served the city for 26 years.

Krutsinger’s appointment required him to first resign his position on the city council, which has left a vacancy there that will be filled with an appointment by Centralia Mayor Tom Ashby. That appointment is expected at the February 10 Centralia City Council meeting.
