You probably have heard of craft brewers – the “little guys” of the beer industry who intentionally put out a small amount of beer, compared to the nationally known brewers. That movement Is applying to wine and spirits as well.
A bill sponsored by Democrat State Rep. Frank Mautino of Spring Valley has passed the General Assembly and awaits the Governor’s action. It would increase the annual limit on craft distillers from 15,000 gallons to 30,000 gallons the first year and 35,000 a year after that.
According to Mautino, one wine maker from Evanston had planned to move their operations to Wisconsin due to the current cap that is in place, as they had received an order for their product that exceeded the cap.
