• Severe Structure Fire on South Elm Wednesday Evening

    A FIRE WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN THE 600 BLOCK OF SOUTH ELM IN CENTRALIA RESULTED IN ROADS BEING BLOCKED WHILE FIREFIGHTERS FOUGHT THE BLAZE.

    WHEN FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED JUST AFTER 5:40 LAST NIGHT AT THE 628 SOUTH ELM STREET ADDRESS, FLAMES WERE ALREADY ERUPTING FROM THE BACK OF THE HOUSE.

    IT IS BELIEVED THE FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN AREA, BUT THE CAUSE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION, BY BOTH LOCAL POLICE AND THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL.

    WHILE THE FIRE HAD STARTED TO SPREAD TO THE BASEMENT AND ATTIC, FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO KEEP THE FIRE FROM GOING THROUGH THE ROOF. ALL AVAILABLE FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICE WERE DISPATCHED TO THE SCENE.

    OWNED BY RUTH REEDER OF IRVINGTON, THE HOME WAS OCCUPIED AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE BY TIMOTHY MCCOMBS AND WHILE HE WAS PRESENT AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE, HE WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE WITHOUT INJURY. DAMAGE TO THE HOME IS BEING ESTIMATED AT $25,000.
