A high-speed chase outside Pocahontas this morning led to the arrest of a man who reportedly escaped from the Bond County jail over the weekend.
Police say officers were tipped to 30-year-old Andrew Walker’s whereabouts in his hometown of Pierron in Madison County Monday morning.
Authorities say a pursuit was started after police located Walker’s vehicle. With speeds reaching 90 mph, Walker’s car eventually went off the road about two miles north of Pocahontas. He tried to flee on foot but was apprehended and taken into custody around 7:30 a.m.
Sheriff’s officials say Walker was in jail Friday when he made his way into a vent leading to an outer room, then broke through a drop ceiling and fled through an exit door.
He was being held in the Bond County jail on multiple methamphetamine related charges, with bail set at half-million dollars. It is expected he will now face additional charges and additional bail and bail conditions.
