Marion County Supervisor of Assessments, Patty Brough has announced the 2013 homestead renewal forms and senior assessment freeze forms were mailed Friday.
Senior citizens who are age 65 or older in 2013 and are owners of record, responsible for paying property taxes and who occupy the property as their principle residence are eligible for the senior homestead exemption, regardless of income.
This is a $4,000 reduction in assessed value. Brough says if you are qualified and have not yet signed up, to please do so at her office in Room 101 of the Marion County Courthouse in Salem.
Senior citizens with a total household income of $55,000 or less are also eligible for the senior homestead freeze exemption.
If you have not received your forms within the next few weeks, Brough says you may obtain them at her office or by contacting her office at 548-3853. First time applicants must apply in person at the office.
