A Mount Vernon native, Major Brent Hampton marched as a member of the Marine Corps’ service staff during the 57th Presidential Inauguration on Monday.

Hampton, along with four other officers and other Marine Barracks marching and musical units, marched down Pennsylvania Avenue, passed the White House and arrived at the capitol before the inauguration ceremony.

Hampton has performed in numerous ceremonies and parades at the barracks, including their popular Friday evening and Tuesday sunset parades performed throughout the summer, a Barracks tradition that dates back to the early 1900s.

He also serves as the Executive Officer of Marine Corps Institute Company, which has the honor of facilitating the training and education of individual Marines, through the distance education programs. Military support to the presidential inaugural ceremony is part of a grand military tradition, dating back to 1789.
