Marion County’s homeless and the homeless in three neighboring counties will be the subject of a headcount being conducted Tuesday by BCMW Community Services.
BCMW hopes to be able to get a picture of how big the problem is and what local needs are. It will also help the group secure funding.
The count will be held in Marion County as well as Bond, Clinton and Washington counties.
Last year, 411 homeless were counted in a 17 county area — 43 people in Marion County and the other three counties BCMW serves.
Officials say the figures are actually higher but the lacks of homeless shelters in a rural area make it difficult to get an accurate count.
