He was born the son of Luther and Rachel (Shepard) Barnes on January 15, 1928 in rural Patoka. He married Dorothy Watts on June 5, 1947 in Vandalia. She survives in Salem.
Survivors include two sons Jim Barnes and wife Julie of Sandoval and Ray Barnes and wife Kay of Iuka; sister Gladys Laux and husband Wilson of Carlyle; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Rachel; two brothers Loren Barnes and Wayne Barnes; and three sisters Jenny Barnes, Opal Brown, and Louise Hampsten.
Mr. Barnes served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Patoka Baptist Church and the Teamster Local of Granite City. He was the owner and operator of 3B Repair in Vernon for 25 years. He was a Christian man who had a strong walk with God.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Patoka Baptist Church in Patoka.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. August 15, 2015 at the Patoka Baptist Church with Rev. David Rogers officiating.
Burial will follow at Pratt Cemetery with the Patoka American Legion and the Illinois Military Funeral Honors Team performing Military Graveside Rites. Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Patoka Baptist Church or the Patoka Fire Department.
