According to the Associated Press, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says his Medicaid fraud unit collected more than $50 million last year.
Koster said the unit took action against 49 Medicaid health care providers in 2012, including 21 criminal cases and 29 civil cases. One provider was subject to both civil and criminal cases.
The amount recovered by the Medicaid fraud unit was up considerably from the $20 million that Koster’s office reported collecting in 2011.
In an effort to find even more people defrauding the system, Koster is now advertising a reward program for people who turn in those they know are defrauding Medicaid.
