A new $237 million hospital in Mt. Vernon has officially opened. The newly-constructed Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon is transferring patients from an outdated existing facility with more than a dozen ambulances.
Construction on the new center began in April 2010. It will create an estimated 112 health care jobs and 40 office positions. The new center replaces the existing complex, which opened in 1952. It will be demolished.
The Good Samaritan growth joins that of Continental Tire, which has announced today another $129 million expansion of its own that is expected to create 100 new full-time jobs over the next three years. Executives with Continental Tire of the Americas say the expansion comes because of increased demand.
