Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe marks has released his report for 2012. Marks says his office received 73 calls in 2012, 21 of which were accidents in which nine were vehicle related; two of those accidents were alcohol related.
One accident involved a train and a vehicle, one accident involved a vehicle and a bicycle; one involved a tornado; three were related to drugs or alcohol; three involved a fire; two involved a gun and one accident was related to aspiration.
The coroner reported seven suicides in 2012, three of which involved a hanging and four were related to a gun. The coroner responded to 41 natural deaths in 2012.
Seven autopsies were conducted in 2012. The coroner received 299 notifications from nursing homes, hospice or emergency rooms. And 325 Death certificates and 140 cremation permits were signed by the coroner in 2012.
