• Two charged in shots fired incident

    There was a shooting incident in mount Vernon last night, but no one was injured. According to the mount Vernon police department, they were dispatched at approximately 7:45 last night to the area of 21st street and conger avenue.

    Upon their arrival, officers encountered suspect 21-year-old Simon w. Taylor, along with a handgun and shell casings nearby.

    Another caller reported seeing a van believed to have been involved in the initial incident parked in a yard in the area of 13th and Perkins. Officers responded to that location and attempted to make contact with two subjects in the yard.

    One subject, 33-year-old Kenyon l. Johnson, fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

    Detectives and a crime scene technician responded to interview witnesses and process evidence. After further investigation, Taylor and Johnson were each charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.

    Both men remain in the Jefferson county jail.
