• Scott AFB civilians could face layoffs

Thousands of civilians at Scott Air Force Base could be laid off or furloughed if congress fails to reach a deal on a sequester March 1.

According to a Metro East congressman, Democrat Bill Enyart, who is on the house armed services committee, congress is playing political games instead of working together with national security and jobs at stake.

If an agreement is not reached by March 1, the Department of Defense will have to deal with a nearly 10-percent budget cut affecting many programs.
