According to the Mount Vernon Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports, the MVPD attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop about 11:15 p.m., on a vehicle due to the light over the license plate being out.
The vehicle would not stop and the driver allegedly threw a bag out the window in the area of 42nd Street and Broadway and then fled to Interstate 57, where the chase went north and speeds were in the 90 miles per hour range. The chase went into Marion County and towards Walnut Hill. The chase was not fruitful in apprehending anyone, but the vehicle was later found. At this time there are no suspects.
