Many residents in southeastern Illinois are recalling the one year anniversary of the leap day tornado that claimed eight lives and caused millions of dollars of damage in Harrisburg and Ridgway February 29th of last year.
Today in Harrisburg all flags were to be flown at half-staff and there is a scheduled moment of silence across the city at 10 a.m.
A series of tributes, memorials and other events are being held throughout the affected area starting today and continuing through Sunday
St. Joesph Catholic Church was destroyed in the storm last February after having been erected in 1870.
Recently a new parish, St. Kateri was formed for the parishioners in Gallatin County. and an architect has been obtained to build a new church on the same site in Ridgway.
