A Belleville man is jailed on $5 million bail after being accused in a southwestern Illinois city’s first homicide in seven years.

Prosecutors in St. Clair County have charged 37-year-old Kristofer McDavid with first-degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Carmen Boyd.

Boyd’s body was found Friday by her landlord in her apartment in Swansea, just east of St. Louis. McDavid was arrested Saturday. Specifics about how Boyd was killed or whether the victim knew McDavid haven’t been released.
