Dustin Michael Phillips was taken into custody Friday night following voluntary questioning by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies.
He is accused of having sexual contact with the child on five different occasions in November and December. The investigation was launched following a complaint to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Phillips was convicted in October last year in Jefferson County of felony burglary and was sentenced to 30-months conditional discharge. a pay or appear date was scheduled for next week in that case.
He remains in the Marion County Jail on the sex assault charge. Judge Michael McHaney set bail for Phillips on Monday at $500,000, or 10-percent cash bond. Phillips was appointed a public defender and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 16.
