• Armed home invasion results in two arrests

    Two Jefferson County men are in jail, the result of a warrant executed Monday in connection with a Sunday armed home invasion and beating in rural Jefferson County.

    In custody are 27-year-old Dustin W. Mannen, of Waltonville, and 21-year-old Jacob D. West, of Nason. They were arrested at a Nason residence after an investigation resulted in a search warrant being issued, which was executed by the Mt. Vernon police department/ Jefferson County Sheriff Department Joint High Risk Team early Monday morning.

    Sheriff’s deputies had found 26-year-old Edgar Van Merced, of Park Forest walking on East Saddle Club Road Sunday and transported him to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. He was later transported to a St. Louis area hospital, where he remained Tuesday morning in critical condition. The incident sparked an investigation that resulted in the arrests.

    Both Mannen and West were taken to the Jefferson County Jail where they are charged with home invasion with a firearm, armed robbery with a firearm, armed violence and aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm.
