Additional funding to a conservation program will help farmers, an environmental group says.
A program geared to helping farmers with financial and technical needs will be funded for the rest of 2013, after being left out of a nine-month extension of the federal farm bill. Drew Thomason, outreach coordinator for the Illinois stewardship alliance, says this is beneficial to Illinois farmers.
Thomason says they think the conservation stewardship program is essential, (given) extreme weather patterns.
He says it really helps farmers start these conservation practices that safeguard against those weather patterns.
There is no deadline for enrollment, but Thomason encourages farmers to sign up early.
