• Storm cleanup underway

    The cleanup is under way in portions of Southern Illinois raked by severe weather. Nearly 3,000 homes and businesses are still without electricity.storm_damage

    The National Weather Service says there are no immediate reports of serious injuries related to Wednesday night’s storm, which dropped golf ball-sized hail in some places and packed winds of up to 50 miles per hour.

    Ameren Illinois says nearly 3,000 homes and businesses in Southwestern Illinois were still without power Thursday morning. Most of those affected customers were in Madison and Jersey counties.

    Reports of the most-significant damage were in some Missouri suburbs of St. Louis Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency in response to that damage and planned to survey that area Thursday
