• Company expands recall to include other foods

    A Louisiana company that initially issued a recall for more than 20,000 pounds of roast beef deli meat has expended its recall to include other  meat, poultry, and deli products due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.  The food-recall-420x215products were distributed to various states, including Missouri and Illinois.

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday that Manda Packing Company out of Baker, La. is recalling 468,000 pounds of roast beef, ham, turkey breast, tasso pork, ham shanks, hog head cheese, corned beef, and pastrami.

    The products were shipped for distribution and to deli stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Some of the meats and cheese may have been sliced at delis and may not contain packaging information. The retail distribution list will be posted on the FSIS website when it becomes available.

    HAM SHANKS:

    The ham shanks product has a “sell by” date of May 13 – June 9, 2013 and the establishment number “EST. 8746A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

    The Tennessee Department of Agriculture took a sample of cooked roast beef from a retail store on April 5 and it tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Additional samples since then have also tested positive.

    The FSIS has not received any reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
