(Mountt Vernon Police Dept.) Last night law enforcement officers from the Mt Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriffs Department, United States Marshalls Office, Illinois Attorney Generals Office and United States Secret Service teamed up to conduct compliance checks on 53 individuals who are registered sex offenders that live in Mt Vernon. The compliance checks verified the offenders addresses, personal information such as vehicles, internet accounts, employment status, etc. Of the 53 individuals checked, 49 were in compliance. There were four violations and one of these four subjects has already been located and arrested. Charges have been forwarded to the Jefferson County States Attorneys Office on the three remaining subjects. The detail was funded by a federal grant. We encourage the public to contact the Mt Vernon Police Department if you are aware of any sex offenders in the community who are not currently registered or is believed to be in violation.
