    A Centralia murder case in which the defendant has been deemed unfit to stand trial has a discharge hearing

    A bench trial in the case of Christopher Newcomb (center) was scheduled today in Marion County Court, where a judge will decide if the defendant was or was not sane at the time of his alleged crimes. Newcomb is accused of killing a local man in 2011.

    Christopher K. Newcomb is charged in the June 2011 stabbing death of businessman Frank Augustine at Augustine’s Fotoz store in Centralia and with the non-fatal stabbing of his landlady Kathryn Beard.

    Newcomb’s hearing will be July 10th. At the discharge hearing, evidence and testimony will be presented to the judge who will decide guilt or innocence, to include guilty but insane or not guilty by reason of insanity.
