    Jefferson County Crime Stoppers needs the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for over 33 burglaries. The burglaries have happened since November of 2012. There have been 33 burglaries reported – 17 in the City of Mt. Vernon and 16 in Jefferson County. Jefferson County Crime Stoppers is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the burglars. crime-stoppers

    Entrance is made to the home in the late evening or early morning, with most being elderly resident’s homes. The homeowner is unaware that their home has been burglarized, until they notice missing cash and stolen jewelry and sometimes notice forced entry to their residence. In some cases, the elderly resident was at home sleeping during the burglary.

    Anyone who may have seen or heard anything about the persons involved are urged to call the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 242-2131 or Jefferson County Crime Stoppers at 242-8477 (TIPS).

    The $500 cash reward is based on the arrest and conviction of the burglars.
