Local lawmakers are angry with the results of a recent audit showing that only a fraction of money from the state’s road fund is
being used for things other than road construction.
Republican State Representatives Charlie Meier, of Okawville, and Mike Bost, of Murphysboro, both voiced frustration yesterday, when the audit revealed only about one fourth of the funds are going into actual road construction.
The rest of the funds are being used to pay salaries and health insurance funds.
The two legislators are saying the money should be going toward building better roads and creating jobs.
