• Fireworks permit classes starting in Mt. Vernon

    The 4th of July is still over a month off, but to be able to shoot fireworks in Mount Vernon, you must have a permit and now is a good time to sign up for the yearly training required to get the permit.They last for one year only.  fireworks safety

    The Mount Vernon Fire Department conducts Consumer Firework Training through the end of June and another class will be held tomorrow.  Classes last less than two hours, but are required by law to purchase, possess or shoot off fireworks in Mount Vernon and many other areas. 

    There will be a test at the end of the class.Saturday’s class begins at 10:30 a.m.  All classes are held at the Municipal West Building , located at 200 Potomac Boulevard in Mount Vernon . 

    A valid driver’s license or state photo ID is required.For more information or to sign up, call Lt. Donny Hayes, the Public Education Officer of the MVFD at 618-242-6835.These permits are good for one year only from date of issuance.There are only two more dates in May and four dates in June scheduled for training.
