• Three arrested in connection with 33 Jefferson County burglaries

    Three Jefferson County residents have been arrested as part of an investigation into residential burglaries targeting elderly residents in Jefferson County. arrested

    According to the Mount Vernon Police, 30-year old Cortney Pepple, her 23-year old sister Whitney Payne and Cynthia Hamilton have been arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

    Pepple and Payne were taken into custody last week and over the weekend and both have bond set at $25,000. Hamilton was taken into custody yesterday.

    The victims of approximately 33 burglaries are mostly elderly. This is an on going investigation and anyone who may have seen or heard anything about the persons involved are urged to call the Mount Vernon Police Department at 242-2131 or Jefferson County Crime Stoppers at 242-8477.

    The $500 cash reward is based on the arrest and conviction of the burglars. If you share information with Crime Stoppers, you do not have to say your name or telephone number and you remain anonymous.
