• Pinckneyville teen airlifted following fiery crash

    According to Illinois State Police, an 18-year-old Pinckneyville teen suffered serious injuries Friday in a fiery crash with a passenger bus being towed by a pickup truck. traffic accident

    Ashley N. Daniels was airlifted to St. John’s Burn Center in St. Louis after the 9:08 p.m. crash on U.S. 51 at Beech Road in Jackson County, says an ISP news release.

    Reports say Daniels was traveling northbound on 51 as the truck, being driven by 51-year-old Gerald Tilley, of Du Quoin, was towing, with a chain, the passenger bus, occupied by 42-year-old Kevin Tilley, also of Du Quoin.

    The truck and bus were westbound on Beech Road making a southbound turn onto 51. The bus, which had no operational lighting, was across both north and southbound lanes of the highway when Daniels’ car collided with it on the driver’s side of the bus, police said.

    The impact caused the bus to catch fire.

    Initially Daniels was taken to Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin before she was air lifted to the St. Louis hospital.

    Gerald Tilley suffered minor injuries and was cited for failure to yield turning left, improper towing and unsafe equipment, say police reports.

    The highway was closed for a time between Dowell and Illinois 14 to allow for cleanup of the crash site.
