• Mt. Vernon man facing DUI charges for head-on collision

    A 51-year-old Jefferson County man is facing DUI and aggravated DUI accident in a school zone with bodily harm charges, after an accident in Mt. Vernon that sent four Mt. Vernon residents to the hospital.

    According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 11 o’clock Tuesday night on Illinois 142 near Woodlawn Lane. A truck driven by David J. King struck another vehicle driven by 24-year old Kayla Sherman, head on.

    King was initially trapped and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for his injuries. His passenger, 43-year old Kendra Loman was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

    Sherman and her passenger 48-year old Rosemary Bishop had injuries, but it is unclear where they were treated. King was released from the hospital and jailed in anticipation of formal filing of charges. The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released later.
