• Tree workshop to be held in Salem

    City of Salem Mayor John Raymer has announced that the city will be holding a two-day tree inventory and assessment workshop as part of its parks sustainability program at William Jennings Bryan Memorial Park next Wednesday and Thursday. chainsaw

    Professor Emeritus Tom Green of Western Illinois University will be on hand to work with participants on identifying and inventorying the trees in Bryan Park, as well providing training on planting, pruning, hazard (risk) assessment, and chainsaw safety.

    This workshop/inventory project is geared at those interested in forestry, parks sustainability, scouting projects, agriculture or those interested in learning how to keep and maintain our urban trees.

    To register to participate, please contact Bev West at City Hall, 618-548-2222, by Monday as space is limited.

    Participants should be at Bryan park shelter #7, which is near Aquatic Center, by 9 a.m. and it will last until 3 p.m. each day. Lunch will be provided. Wear outdoor clothing and bring a camera or camera phone.
