The board cut JV girls and boys basketball, junior high boys and girls basketball, junior high baseball, high school softball, high school fall baseball, high school and junior high cheerleading and junior high volleyball. The board has also eliminated sponsors for homecoming, Just Say No, and National English Honor Society.

Not being cut are high school boys and girls basketball, golf, spring high school baseball and girls high school volleyball, as well as junior and senior high scholar bowl the cuts are anticipated to save the district $100,000.

Superintendent Jennifer Garrison reports the cuts had to be made to keep the district out of the red, as the state continues to only pay 89 percent of the district’s general state aid, resulting in another $300,000 funding shortfall.

It is hoped some of the sports can be salvaged through volunteer coaching and other community efforts.
