• Woman arrested in Mt. Vernon Cash Store robbery

    A 39-year-old Ina woman has been arrested in connection with three area robberies following an investigation by the

    Mt. Vernon Police Department, Benton Police Department, West City Police Department, Ina Police Department and State of Illinois Attorney General’s office.

    Raquel Ashby has been arrested in connection with robberies at the Cash Store in Mt Vernon, the Cash Store in West City, and the Bank of America in Benton. Ashby is held in the Franklin County Jail. Bail has not yet been set.

    On June 15, the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to The Cash Store at 3300 Broadway for a report of an armed robbery.

    A white female possibly in her late 40’s, wearing a pink shirt, blue jeans, and yellow surgical face mask entered the store and demanded money. She inferred a weapon, but never displayed one, and received an undisclosed amount of money.
