The democratic senator from Illinois says the selections were made by a bipartisan screening panel he commissioned, and it’s Obama’s call on nominating anyone for senate consideration.

Durbin’s recommendations include Benton federal prosecutor George Norwood who’s family is from Centralia, federal court clerk Nancy Rosenstengel, Marion lawyer Stephen stone and O’Fallon attorney Staci Yandle.

Also among the candidates is Lisa wood, the assistant vice chancellor and associate general counsel at Washington University in Saint Louis. Durbin says he consulted with his fellow Illinois senator, republican Mark Kirk, about his list before submitting it to the president.
