• Four injured in I-57 accident

    According to the Illinois State Police, four Cobden residents were sent to Salem Township Hospital Monday morning, for injuries they received in an accident on Interstate 57, a mile north of Salem. traffic accident

    Police say, 33-year-old Eric Carter fell asleep while traveling southbound and ran off the left side of the highway. He woke up, over corrected, crossed both southbound lanes, and went off the right side of the road. As he tried to drive back into the southbound lanes the van rolled several times and wound up on its side in the roadside ditch.

    Carter along with three passengers, 37-year-old Vesta Rodriquez, 13-year-old Roswell Poineta, and 11-year-old Carmen Poineta, were all able to get out of the van on their own. State police say all were wearing their seat belt.
