Parents and families in Sandoval are working to save Blackhawk athletics at the junior and senior high school, after a number of sports programs had to be cut due to budget constraints. blackhawk1_detail-300x267

The Village of Sandoval last night approved a block party from noon until midnight on Saturday, Sept. 28, between Fats and Bubs taverns.

The block party was first started in memory of Bub’s Tavern owner Bub Bates and to help his family with expenses following a traffic accident last year that claimed Bub’s life and left his wife Dareena and their son seriously injured. That party raised over $30,000 for their medial expenses.

This year proceeds from the block party will instead go to help support sports in the schools. The community has been pulling together to rescue the cut programs, volunteering to coach and raising concession stand prices to help bridge the budget gap.
