William McKinney had been under investigation following the death of 62-year-old Roy Barnhart earlier this month in Franklin county.

The investigation stemmed from when McKinney and a Christopher police officer responded to a report about a fight taking place at a home along main street in Buckner involving a boat trailer.

McKinney reportedly pepper sprayed Barnhart and according to witnesses, used excessive force after Barnhart was already subdued.

Barnhart was first taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a St. Louis are hospital where he later died.

McKinney was taken to the Franklin County Jail charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery of a senior citizen and official misconduct. Bail has been set at $500,000.
