The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met last night for the regular monthly meeting. They learned that KC has been chosen as the recipient of a $6,975 grant from the Monsanto fund’s 2013 site grant initiative.
The Centralia site will be awarding funds to the Kaskaskia college foundation to help fund the Kaskaskia College and Centralia Junior High School early college awareness partnership.
This partnership will reach out to eighth-grade students who would be first-generation college students and their parents. Through two major events, these students and their families will be educated in how to make their dreams of a college education a reality.
The first event will inform students and parents of the steps they should begin taking as they enter high school to prepare for college including curriculum planning, dual-credit and financial planning.
The second event will increase student comfort level with the college environment and familiarity with college processes by bringing these students and their families onto Kaskaskia College’s campus to provide them with a mock college experience including admission, registration, advising, financial aid, a classroom experience and commencement.
