The Centralia Lake Washer Tournament committee has announced that applications are being accepted for the Ninth Annual Centralia Lake Scholarship.
The scholarship was made possible starting in 2005 with proceeds from the Annual Centralia Lake Washer Tournament held each year. This will be the 18th year for the tournament.
The event has become so successful over the last 17 years, that beginning in 2005 the committee started an annual $1,000 scholarship to a college student who will be attending Kaskaskia College as a freshman. The scholarship is open to all KC students with no specific grade or major, and may be used as the student’s needs dictate for housing or other expenses.
Last year’s recipients were Kristen Harper, of Salem and Olivia Walker, of Carlyle. The scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of many sponsors and players over the years. The tournament draws participants from seven different counties, with a full slate of 50 plus teams each year.
This year will be the 18th Annual R.L. Howard Memorial Centralia Lake Washer Tournament and will be held Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. The scholarship will be awarded that Sunday during the trophy presentations. Entry deadline is Aug. 13.
