A 20-year-old Ashley man has been arrested and charged with burglary after police identified him in video surveillance inside the Centralia bar he is alleged to have broken into. burglary

Briton McCray was arrested by Centralia police during a Tuesday night traffic stop and has been charged with felony burglary and criminal damage to property for the Sunday morning burglary at the Poplar Place in Centralia, where entry was apparently gained by kicking in the front door of the business.

Police say surveillance video from inside the bar showed McCray initially entered the business with a towel over his face, but the towel fell off while he was throwing the cash register on the floor. He didn’t put it back over his face and both police and the owner of the poplar place were able to identify him.

Police were dispatched to the bar early Sunday morning when the burglar alarm was triggered. Officers found the glass in the front door had been shattered. The broken cash register was found on the floor and a jug of money being collected by one of the bartenders was missing.

Bail for McCray has been set at $25,000.
