• Hamilton County deputy coroner found shot to death

    Authorities are investigating the death of the chief deputy coroner of Hamilton county, who also serves as the assistant chief of the McLeansboro Fire Department. investigation

    Robert Lee Bryson, 52, died shortly before noon Wednesday from an apparent gunshot wound. His body was discovered at the McLeansboro fire station.

    Hamilton County coroner Ron Ewald confirmed that Bryson died of a gunshot wound, but declined to elaborate.

    Ewald says the death remains under investigation with an autopsy scheduled for Thursday. Illinois State Police have joined the investigation.

    Bryson is also the former chief deputy of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.

    McLeansboro is approximately 30 miles south of Mt. Vernon.
