• Three arrested in Mt. Vernon with four pounds of pot

    Three people are in the Jefferson County Jail, following arrests for drug possession.

    On August 29th, 2013, the Mt. Vernon/Jefferson County Narcotics Division Detectives were conducting surveillance of a residence on Mannen Street, when detectives observed a suspicious vehicle in the area.

    Detectives reportedly observed the driver commit a traffic violation and stopped the vehicle. When they made contact with the driver, an overwhelming odor of cannabis was detected coming from the vehicle. The driver then reportedly lied to detectives about his name. Due to the overwhelming odor of cannabis the driver and two other occupants were removed from the vehicle.

    A search of the vehicle by detectives resulted in the recovery of approximately four pounds of cannabis and a large amount of United States currency.

    Police arrested the driver, 24-year-old Jerrell Stocksill, of Mound City; 30-year-old Michael Brooks, of Tinley Park; and 30-year-old Joseph Oliver, of Mt. Vernon.

    All three are charged with possession of between 500 and 2000 grams of cannabis with intent to deliver. Stocksill is also charged with obstructing justice for lying about his name.
