• Mt. Vernon man sentenced for drug charge

    A 27-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced yesterday in Jefferson County Court, to 20 years in prison on a 2008 felony drug charge.

    Judge Barry Vaughn found Marventi D. Palmer guilty of Class 1 felony manufacture with the intent to deliver between 1-15 grams of cocaine. He also ordered Palmer to pay nearly $4,000 in fines and court costs.

    In addition to the 2008 drug charge, Palmer is facing felony charges for allegedly firing a gun into an occupied vehicle; being a felon in possession of a firearm; misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; felony aggravated battery in a public place; misdemeanor interference with a report of domestic violence and theft under $300; all are stemming from arrests in 2011.

    2010 charges Palmer is still facing include felony possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Palmer had been convicted in 2006 of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 2-years in prison.
