The harvest has begun, but only for those who started early. harvest

John Hawkins, spokesman for the Illinois Farm Bureau, says, “Normally, we’ve had some years where the Monday after Labor Day, we usually start the corn harvest, and then we switch over to soybeans; but, this year, we may actually see some farmers … start with soybeans and then switch over to corn.”

As for the yields, “the latest crop reports we got from the USDA last week indicated that we are going to see at least 60-65 bushels better yield than we got last year in the middle of the drought,” says Hawkins. Soybeans, he says, could be a different story. “The yields are determined in August, and we didn’t get much rain in August.”
