Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, who has formally announced she is running for reelection, has completed her “Common Sense Express” three-day tour with stops this afternoon in Mount Vernon and Marion.
She met with local leaders and supporters in each of the nine communities she stopped at for a short program. Topinka mentioned some of the problems with some politicians in Illinois.
Topinka was the first woman to be voted state treasurer, as she was in 1994 and now is the first woman to be elected to two constitutional offices, as she was elected comptroller in 2010.
The Mount Vernon rally took place at Papa Z’s Ice Cream Shop. Participants included state Representative John Cavaletto, who introduced Topinka, Jefferson County Treasurer Dan Knox and ROE Superintendent Ron Daniels.
