The 26-year-old mother of Willow Long, the 7-year-old Effingham County girl who was stabbed to death in September, has been arrested in Shelby County for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia following a routine traffic stop. Online court
records indicate she posted bond and is scheduled for a Nov. 13 court hearing.
In addition to being Willow’s mother, Ciara DeRyke is the sister of 22-year-old Justin DeRyke, who is charged with three First Degree Murder counts in Willow’s murder.
Questions remain about possible criminal charges being filed against Ciara DeRyke for providing false information to police after her daughter was first reported missing.
Ciara is reported to have told authorities she had seen her daughter eating breakfast and watching TV that Sunday morning in September.
However, according to police, Willow was already dead at that time, her body wrapped in plastic and dumped in the Little Wabash River.
Hundreds of volunteers descended on the small Effingham County town of Watson to search for the missing Willow, with four searchers ultimately finding the child’s body that Monday.
