• Train derailment spills coal in Franklin County

    A Sunday train derailment remains under investigation in Franklin County.

    The derailment involving the train hauling coal occurred a little before 1:30 p.m. between Christopher and Ziegler but authorities said it didn’t pose a threat to public safety.

    No roads were closed as a result of the derailment, however, the railroad tracks will be closed while the train company works to clear debris. All but two of the 11 train cars sustained heavy damage.
